Remember when you first stepped into your role, brimming with excitement, only to find yourself feeling like a lone wolf in a sea of general education? I've been there, and let me tell you, it doesn't have to stay that way!

After going through a very difficult time, I decided to create my own collaborative group by reaching out to neighboring districts. I found out they were exactly like me, solo gifted ed teachers in their districts. I began a county collaborative group which inspired Gifted Ed Solutions.  Here are a few ways you can create your own gifted ed community:

1. Build a Virtual Support Network

Who says you need to be in the same building to connect? Jump into online communities and social media groups dedicated to gifted education. It's like having a 24/7 teacher's lounge filled with people who get it. We’d love for you to join our small, but growing Gifted Ed Solutions Facebook Group

2. Leverage Technology for Collaboration

Sometimes it’s not feasible to meet in person.  Video conferencing is your new best friend! Set up virtual meetups with other gifted educators. Share resources through cloud platforms. It's like having a team meeting in your pajamas – what's not to love?

3. Create a Local Gifted Education Advocacy Group

Even thought it feels like it, remember you're actually not alone in your district. Connect with parents of gifted students and organize regular meetings. Together, you can be a force to be reckoned with when advocating for resources.

4. Develop a Personal Professional Development Plan

Set those goals, find those online courses, and attend those conferences! Your growth doesn't stop just because you're flying solo.  Don’t be afraid to ask to attend conferences, even online webinars, that actually relate to gifted education.

5. Implement a "Gifted Corner" in General Education Classrooms

Spread the gifted love! Collaborate with general education teachers to create designated spaces for gifted learners. It's a win-win – you extend your reach, and they get support in differentiation.  You can also recruit your own Rockstar Gen Ed Gifted Team. Bonus Tip: Document Your Journey

Keep a reflective journal, start a blog, or launch a podcast. Your experiences are valuable, and sharing them can help other isolated gifted educators feel less alone.

As someone who's walked this path, I know the challenges you face. In my small, rural district, I started as the lone gifted education teacher with zero resources. But by implementing these strategies, I built a county-wide network of educators passionate about serving gifted students. Now, I'm here to support you on your journey.

I also offer 1:1 coaching services to support gifted teachers on the gifted ed journey.  Whether your need help crafting your advocacy strategy, designing a system for child find, or need to simplify your paperwork, I can help. Together we can transform your gifted program and create a vibrant, supportive community – even if you're the only gifted teacher for miles around.

You are making a difference in your gifted students’ lives, and or often the only adult in the school who understands their “gifted gripes”. With the right support and strategies, you can turn your isolation into inspiration.
